Eva's Roost Retreat Cabin is nestled in a hillside, with expansive windows facing the forest & pond. You’ll feel like you’re in a world all your own. A newly added screened area allows the French doors to be swung wide open while you're laying in bed, playing the guitar, creating art or simply listening to the sounds of nature when temperatures allow.
Designed and hand built by Paul, all of the rock and much of the wood comes from the land and surrounding area. Immersed in nature, Eva's Roost is a space for rest and renewal. The cabin has a comfy queen size bed, built in shower, it's own water line and septic, and a small kitchen that doubles as a storm shelter. Kitchen appliances include: bar fridge, induction plate, electric fry pan, toaster oven, popcorn popper, French press and kettle. A microwave is stored in a cupboard for those who wish to use one. Guests can request an air fryer, blender, slow cooker and use of the oven in the main house if needed. An large wood stove and heating cooling system allow for your desired temperature in any season. The outside fire pit area serves as a perfect pond & cypress viewing area with morning coffee or tea.
Your retreat is private while still having access to your hosts up the hill if needed. Eva's Roost guests can leave out the back door and head into the wandering trails of the forest, around the pond and visit the cob house that is currently unfinished. You're welcome to peek inside. Depending on the season, there may be goodies for you to pick in the main garden or in the greenhouse. Several people live and work on the property who can help you with anything. You can also keep completely to yourself if that's what you're needing.

Note: As of this update, July 3rd, 2026, we are still listed on Air bnb if you prefer to book there. We have made the difficult decision to move away from hosting on their site for multiple personal and ethical reasons. For now we are still listed there as we transition.

First Time Guests:
Three Night Stay over a weekend: $575
Three day Stay on weeknights only: $500
Weeklong Stay: $975
Additional nights: to be agreed upon
Pet Fee: $40/up to two pets/per week
$20/week for extra pet - limit 3
Return Guests:
* Reduced rate of 15%.
* Reduced rate of 7.5% for first-time referred family or friends.
* Reservation priority for return dates in the following year.
* Reduced rate for stays longer than one week - to be agreed upon.
* Negotiated rate for a month long stay if schedule allows.
* We offer a payment plan for return guests, via Venmo, for installments of $100. Many return guests love this option of paying smaller amounts out of each paycheck in the months leading up to their stay. There are no extra charges for this service.
* We currently have about 15 return guests who book annually and/or semi-annually.
* We'd love to have you join our return guest list. It's like having your own cabin to return to whenever you need it.
Accepted Forms of Payments & Guest Suggestions:
- We accept payment by: Venmo, Credit Card by phone(5% fee), check or cash
- We are licensed for accommodation in Union County Illinois and pay all state and county hotel taxes
- Rates are based on up to two guests
- Guests are welcome to have friends or family visit during the daytime/evening
- A pull-out futon is available for a visiting guest for $25/night extra
- We keep a $25 administration fee for any cancellations made less than 14 days before your stay. We understand that emergencies and the unexpected can happen. We will gladly refund the rest of any payments you have made.

Food & supplies during your stay:
Our Shops: Bonnie owns Cobden Village Shops & Galleries in downtown Cobden. You will find two kinds of locally roasted coffee, Equal Exchange tea and dark chocolate there. The shops carry local honey, soap, lotions, tinctures, syrups, balms & oils, handmade cloths, hats, bags, wax wraps, produce bags(great for morels) & other zero waste items. Local art & artisan wares, vintage items(including clothes), antiques, gently used/almost new, plus upcycled & refurbished items are sold by over 90 vendors, artists and artisans.
Order Farm Food Ahead: Guests are welcome to order locally grown and produced goods through www.leafffoodhub.com. Deliveries are Thursdays from 3:30 - 5pm at Cobden Village Shops(Bonnie will pick up if you are arriving Friday or Saturday). If you would like farm fresh eggs during your stay, let Bonnie know. There is no extra charge for six eggs, $3 if you'd like a dozen.

The Iron Whisk -an almost famous place for breakfast or lunch. Open 8am - 2pm Thurs-Sun. Seasonal, locally sourced, chef menu
The Grapevine - a new take out place with a patio, attached to Cobden Village Shops & Galleries. Open 11 to 4 Sat - Sun. Levantine menu.
Taqueria Pequena - a famous traditional taco stand. Open 11 - 3pm everyday except Sunday. They just celebrated 20 years in 2025.
The Green Mug - coffee hub homemade food, locally sourced as possible, organic, fair trade coffee. Open 7am to 5pm everyday except Thurs
Mother Coffee & Provisions - coffee hub - locally roasted coffee, baked goods and expanding food options. Open Sat & Sun 8am to 2pm
Mexican Grocery - La Mexicana - spices, drinks, canned goods & more. They sometimes offer some prepared food(tamale Fridays) - just ask.

Fish Fry on Fridays in the spring Catholic church in Cobden. Peach Festival is the second weekend in August. Christmas Village is the first Saturday in December. There are several good places to eat, enjoy music and relax nearby including Feather Hill, Owl Creek Vineyard, Starview Vineyard and other wineries in the area. Most wineries & breweries have food with some having full-service. I recommend Kiki's Cafe in Anna for locally roasted coffee and yummy simple food options. Kitchen On LaFayette in Anna has delicious lunches & dinners on specific days(check their Facebook page). King's Wok is a great family owned Chinese food restaurant in Anna. Sinisi's is a locally owned Chicago style favorite. Several Mexican restaurants in Anna have a variety of options of authentic fare. The Flying Pig in Alto Pass is a good place to stop and get sandwiches and snacks to-go if you're headed that direction for local hikes or sites. The Makanda Java has homemade sandwiches and ice cream if you're on your way to or from Giant City Park or further destinations. Other restaurants/caterers, food trucks, special dinners & music events with food are plentiful in the Southernmost Illinois area. Carbondale is about a 20-25 minute drive and offers a nice selection of restaurants as well. We can give you some suggestions of locally owned places, based on the kind of food and environment you prefer.
You can also go on Facebook and check out the Southern Illinois Eats page - over 60,000 members, lots of reviews and referrals for good food. The closest large grocery store is Kroger in Anna. The next closest is Schnucks, Aldi's, Kroger, Fresh Foods, International Grocery or the Neighborhood Coop in Carbondale. Local farmer's markets abound. Ask us.
