Food
Eva's Roost and Tiny House of Paul both have a basic kitchen that includes some of the following: toaster oven, kettle, single induction element, french press for coffee, fridge and slow cooker or electric fry pan. Some supplies include: coffee beans, tea, honey, spices, tealights, guest soaps, incense. Both of these spaces have a charcoal grill available(guests supply their own charcoal & lighter fluid).
Bonnie owns Cobden Village Shops in downtown Cobden, where you'll find Equal Exchange coffee, chocolate, teas, and local honey. We also carry zero waste products including shampoo/conditioner, local soaps, laundry strips, beeswax wraps, net produce bags(great for morels) and more. Shops include antique, vintage, repurposed, art, artisan-made, locally made products and more.
Cobden has several good places to eat including: Iron Whisk is an almost famous place for breakfast or lunch 8am - 2pm Thurs-Sun, Taqueria Pequena has been operating for over a decade. It's a traditional taco stand open 11 - 3pm everyday except Sunday. The Mexican Grocery in Cobden has some food supplies, and sometimes offers some prepared food. Colors 'N Spices, in the back of Cobden Village Shops, has seasonal vegetarian fare, baked bread, and homemade ice cream with diary-free & gluten-free options. In the spring, there is a delicious Fish Fry on Fridays at the Catholic church in Cobden. There are several good restaurants in Anna(about a ten minute drive) as well as Carbondale(20 minutes). Most of the wineries have some kind of food with some having full-service. Other restaurants/caterers, special dinners & music events with food are plentiful in the Southernmost Illinois area. A binder offers suggestions and directions. You can also go on Facebook and check out the Southern Illinois Eats page - over 50,000 members on there and lots of good reviews and referrals for good food. The closest grocery store is Kroger in Anna. The next closest is Schnucks or the Neighborhood Coop in Carbondale. Local farmer's markets abound. Ask us.
